Target gene or protein Bax, Caspase 7, Caspase 8, Caspase 9, p53, mdm2, Caspase 3
Gene or Protein evidence Moreover, the induction of apoptosis was correlated with the changes in the mRNA level of pro-apoptotic genes. Increased expression of bax and caspase-7, -8, and -9 and decreased mRNA expression of bcl-2 was observed, whereas the mRNA levels of p53 and mdm2 were not altered. Our results showed significant up regulation of caspase 3 after exposure to vitexin 2-∆∆ct = 3.2 (P<0.001). Also we showed significant over expression of caspase 6, 8 in treated cells in comparison to non-treated cells 2-∆∆ct = 5.8 (P<0.001), 2∆-∆ct = 4.42 (P<0.0001) respectively. In conclusion, these data provided evidence for the apoptotic activity of vitexin, by a caspase dependent mechanism.
Target pathways NA
IC50 NA
Potency The inhibition was stronger after 48 h of treatment and showed that vitexin reduced proliferation by up to 40% of the control value, while isoorientin inhibited proliferation by up to 50% , and orientin by up to 55%

Additional information  These results clearly demonstrated that flax straw metabolites effectively induced growth inhibition and apoptosis in human breast adenocarcinoma cells.
