Gene or Protein evidence |
Western blotting showed that the protein levels of pro-apoptotic proteins including cleaved caspase-3, cleaved caspase-8, cleaved caspase-9, Bax, Bid, tBid, p53, p21/cip1, Fas and FasL were significantly upregulated by tangeretin. The results of molecular docking analyses revealed the advantage of tangeretin as an inhibitor of PIK3CA, MMP9, PTGS2, and IKK. Furthermore, tangeretin down-regulated PCNA expression on breast cancer-bearing rats. |
Target pathways |
Stat3 signaling pathway, PI3K/Akt signaling pathway |
IC50 |
9 µM against MDA-MB-231 |
Potency |
Our results in this study show that tangeretin inhibits the Stat3 signaling pathway and induces CSC death, indicating that tangeretin may be a potential natural compound that targets breast cancer cells and CSCs. |
