Phytochemical Name : Mangifera zeylanica extract

Properties Information
PhytoCAT-ID PhytoCAT-717
Phytochemical name or plant extracts Mangifera zeylanica extract
PMID 26893740
Literature evidence Collectively, results obtained in the present study indicate that the hexane extract of M. zeylanica bark mediates cytotoxic activities through induction of apoptosis in three cancer cell lines, thus, the hexane extract may be used to isolate novel anti-cancer compounds.
IUPAC name NA
Phytochemicals’ class or type of plant extracts Hexane extract, Chloroform extract, Ethyl acetate extract, Methanol extract
Source of phytochemicals or plant Extracts Mangifera zeylanica
Geographical availability Sri Lanka
Plant parts Bark
Other cancers Breast cancer
Target gene or protein Caspase 3, Caspase 7, Bcl-2-associated X , p53
Gene or Protein evidence Furthermore, upregulation of proapoptotic Bcl-2-associated X protein occurred in the three cancer cell lines, and antiapoptotic survivin was downregulated in MCF-7 and SKOV-3 cells, by contrast, tumor protein p53 was upregulated only in MCF-7 cells, suggesting p53-mediated apoptosis in MCF-7 cells and p53-independent apoptosis in the remaining cancerous cell lines.
Target pathways NA
IC50 Hexane extract - 87.64±0.37 µg/ml against MCF-7, 116.5±0.32 µg/ml against MDA-MB-231, 217.2±0.33 µg/ml against MCF-10A Chloroform extract - 422.9±0.40 µg/ml against MCF-7, 280.1±3.44 µg/ml against MDA-MB-231, 92.86±0.53 µg/ml against MCF-10A Ethyl acetate extract - >1000 µg/ml against MCF-7, >1000 µg/ml against MDA-MB-231, >1000 µg/ml against MCF-10A Methanol extract - >1000 µg/ml against MCF-7, >1000 µg/ml against MDA-MB-231, >1000 µg/ml against MCF-10A

Additional information  In addition, fraction M1 obtained from bioactivity-guided fractionation of the hexane extract demonstrated increased cytotoxicity in cancer cells (IC50, 15.4-38.7 µg/ml) compared with normal cells (IC50, 114.6 µg/ml), with the highest cytotoxicity observed in MDA-MB-231 triple-negative breast cancer cells.
