Target pathways | Focusing on recent breast cancer research, Jiao et al. reported that, myricetin suppressed the cell viability of MCF-7 cells mainly through p21-activated kinase 1 through downstream signaling of the β-catenin pathway. In another study, Ranganathan et al. demonstrated that quercetin induces apoptosis in breast cancer cells through suppression of Twist via p38MAPK pathway

Additional information | H. salsugineum contains chlorogenic acid derivatives as major phenolic compounds, and myricetin and quercetin derivatives as major flavonols. We believe that the inhibition effects of H. salsugineum on breast cancer cell lines are due to the compounds that we have identified. H. salsugineum contains chlorogenic acid derivatives as major phenolic compounds, and myricetin and quercetin derivatives as major flavonols. All these phenolic compounds’ chemopreventive properties and mechanisms of action are well-described in the literature.
